Hydroponic Developments Ltd - The Company
History
The development in the 1970’s of the NFT system of hydroponics, at the ‘Glasshouse Crops Research Institute’ at ‘Littlehampton’ in the South of England saw an electrical contractor, ‘Rob Smith’ being asked to design and build a hydroponic controller for a fledgling NFT system at a large commercial growing site.
This led to the birth of the company which now services the world with the manufacture of high quality hydroponic test and control equipment NZHI Ltd.
Up until August 2000, Rob Smith was the CEO of that manufacturing company. After a quarter of a century of ‘hands on’ service to the hydroponic Industry, Rob decided to sell his interest in the company and give himself time to pursue some new challenges.
After a few months, it became obvious that there was still a demand for this 'hands on' experience in the industry and so it was that the company ‘Hydroponic Developments Ltd’ was born.
This company which has the benefit of over 25 years of experience has a mission statement:

Wrote the text for the two major books we sell ‘Hydroponic Gardening’
(which is now a ‘best seller’)
and
‘Hydroponic Crop Production’
(written especially for those who wish to get into large scale growing)
Rob also continues to write for international publications and is a regular contributor to ‘The Growing Edge’ along with providing the text for seminars and teaching aides.
